Naturalist and Author John Bates presents “Our Living Ancestors: Where to Find the Best Old-Growth Remnants in Wisconsin”

February 1, 2018 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Camp Jorn YMCA

With less than 1% of our original presettlement forests still intact in Wisconsin, old-growth forests are a treasure to explore. But where to find them? Join author and naturalist John Bates Thursday, February 1 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Camp Jorn YMCA for an enlightening and entertaining evening discovering the best sites in Wisconsin, and what makes them so remarkable.

Bates, the author of nine books and a contributor to seven others, has worked as a naturalist in Wisconsin’s Northwoods for 29 years. In a collaboration with the North Lakeland Discovery Center, a portion of the evening’s admission includes a special opportunity to contribute to the production costs of his upcoming book on old-growth forests “Our Living Ancestors: The History and Ecology of Old-Growth Forests in Wisconsin (And Where to Find Them.)” Attendees names will be added to the inside of the book as supporters and pre-orders of autographed copies will be available as well.

The program will be held at the main lodge of Camp Jorn YMCA in Manitowish Waters. Cash Bar available. $20/person. Register online at discoverycenter.net or call 715-543-2085.
