Individual

The Turtle River Pursuit is a 22K race with two disciplines performed by an individual skier. The Individual Pursuit will combine the times of an 11K classic leg and an 11K skate leg for a cumulative time and determination of the fastest skiers. The entire trail system is groomed regularly with a set of tracks and a skate lane allowing the skiers the choice of skiing the two loops on the same day or different days at their convenience. The race course is generally flat with intermittent rolling hills and the degree of difficulty is easy to moderate. All participants will receive a nordic ski hat commemorating the event. Virtual event skiers keep and self report their time. Virtual event skiers may ski the course multiple times and report their best time. Fee:  Virtual Event from December 17, 2022 – February 19, 2023: Register by December 15th – $40 Register by January 15th – $45 Register by January 28th – $50 Special Student Pricing (Up to 19) – $10 Awards: Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female skiers. Prizes will be mailed the week of February 19th. Candlelight Ski Shoe Hike: Skiers are invited to attend MECCA’s annual community celebration at dusk on January 28, 2023. A one mile trail is candlelit with two hundred luminaria for skiers, snowshoers, and hikers to enjoy the wintery night. Gather around the bonfire and woodstove for hot chocolate and cookies. No registration necessary, family friendly, and dog friendly.

Event:  “Desk Set” — Movie Day for “Love Your Library” month

Date and time: 2/6/2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Location: Mercer Public Library, 2648W Margaret Street, Mercer, Wisconsin

Description:  In honor of “Love Your Library” month, the Friends of the Mercer Public Library will sponsor two afternoon movies this month. Join us on Monday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. for “Desk Set.” This 1957 film is a cult favorite among librarian and stars Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Bunny Watson (Hepburn) is in charge of the reference library at the Federal Broadcasting Network when efficiency expert Richard Sumner (Tracy) is brought in to install an EMERAC, a massive early computer. Sparks fly as the reference librarians worry about their jobs, Bunny learns to control the machine, and Bunny’s longtime romantic partner suddenly wants to commit now that Sumner is on the scene. This event is free and open to the public, and popcorn will be provided! For more information, call 715-476-2366 or visit www.mercerpubliclibrary.org.
