American Antiques: 1700-1950 – Mercer Library
The class will be taught by Roger Hinterthuer and Wendy Thiede in three locations in Mercer; the Mercer Library, a private home, and the shop Antiques N’ Stuff.
The course will help students have a better understanding of many categories of antiques ranging in time from the 18th century to the 1950’s. What is an antique and how to tell authentic antiques from reproductions will be discussed. Following an overview in the first session at the library, in session 2, the class will convene at a private home to view examples of 18th and 19th century furniture, antique lighting and porcelain. Session 3 will be held at the antique shop in Mercer, Antiques N Stuff, to discuss a wide variety of antiques, including what is popular today. Students will not have to purchase reading material but will be asked to read articles on the internet and to watch Antiques Roadshow.
