Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology
Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology
November 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This production is an adaptation of Edgar Lee Masters’ collection of poems exploring the lives and deaths of the residents of the fictional town of Spoon River, Illinois in late 19th Century. Conceived and arranged by Charles Aidman.
The actors play several characters, delivering monologues, or epitaphs, revealing their joys, regrets, and secrets. Woven into the production are folk songs and other musical interludes. Through these monologues, the play offers a critique of small-town life, exposing hypocrisy, social injustice, and the often-hidden struggles of individuals within a community–and yes–humor.
