Over half of Wisconsin’s 50 native mussel species are listed as species of greatest conservation need. Currently, there are still many unknowns on where different mussel species live. Join WDNR Conservation Biologist Jesse Weinzinger and the Discovery Center Water Team to “dive” into the world of mussels. We will start on land with an introduction to mussels and their identification. We will then cruise the waters of Vance Lake on the Manitowish River, searching for mussels and learning how to identify them in the field. Participants will meet at NLDC for the on-land portion before caravanning to nearby Vance Lake. Canoes/PFDs provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. $30 ($25 members). Register by July 7.
