The American Hiking Society celebrates hiking once a year with a National Trails Day Hike. This year Ian Shackleford ,Ottawa NF Botanist and I will be leading a 3.5 mile hike of the North Country Trail, Heritage Chapter in Iron County. We will visit the abandoned turn of the last century Gold Mine attempt by a Civil War Veteran and his son. We see one of the new benches built by Eagle Scout Cody Sobrack of Hurley BS Troop 323. We will reach the overlook of the Penokees by way of our new reroute. Should be seeing Swamp Saxifrage growing and maybe some bear tracks. See you there.
