Snowshoe Hike to Old-Growth Pines
Bates to lead snowshoe hike to old-growth pines
Naturalist John Bates will lead a free snowshoe hike into remnant old-growth pines near the DuPage State Natural Area on Friday, January 11. This will be a half-mile hike on well-packed trail. Those interested should meet at the Mercer Public Library at 1:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts (ICORE). This small site retains some of the largest remnant white pines left in Iron County and perhaps the entire state. The hike will be about a half mile on a packed trail and will be suitable for all skill levels. Those interested in hiking with the group can meet at the Mercer Public Library, 2548W Margaret Street, at 1:00 p.m. to carpool to the site just off County Road J.
