Spoon Carving 2-Day Workshop at LOLA

This workshop covers all aspects of green wood spoon carving, from splitting and axing, to spoon design, carving techniques, knife grips, safety, and finishing cuts.  By the end of the two days you will have all the knowledge you need to carve a spoon from log to finish cuts.

Suitable for all levels of experience, including beginners.   Some spoon carving experience is helpful but not necessary.

All tools, and wood will be provided for class, however feel free to bring along wood you would like to work with, any previous spoons you have carved and any carving tools you own.

Please wear comfy clothes that can get full of wood chips and sturdy closed toe shoes.

If you’ve taken other spoon carving classes and want to learn more, this is the class for you.

Students will go home with several wooden spoons they have carved themselves.  As well as the knowledge and confidence in axe, knife, and wood spitting to make it possible.

  • If a class is canceled a full refund will be issued.
  • Refunds will not be issued after the registration date closes.
  • Beginning January 1, 2024, students who request a refund prior to the registration deadline will be given the option of receiving the full amount in the form of a gift certificate for future classes OR a refund for the balance minus a $5.00 service fee.

Bio:

Erik Vevang has been spoon carving since 2013 and has been teaching greenwood spoon carving since 2016. Introduced to carving by his wife Michele, Erik and Michele have taken numerous carving classes and workshops on their spoon carving journey. Since 2016 Erik has taught many carving classes, both advanced and introductory.   As a carpenter, woodworker, and graduate with a BA in Studio Art from St Olaf College in Northfield MN, spoon carving has been the perfect way for Erik to explore the intersection of art and craft.  Erik currently hosts classes in spoon carving at the Audubon Park community center in Minneapolis, White Bear Center for the Arts in White Bear Lake, Duluth Folk School in Duluth, and at Marine Mills Folk School in Marine On St Croix.
