Traveling Lantern Theatre “My Mother the Astronaut”
The Mercer Library will host the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company presenting “My Mother the Astronaut,” a fun and interactive play for all ages, on Thursday, June 13 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mercer Community Center.
Traveling Lantern Theatre has been traveling and educating children since 1985. This year’s feature, “My Mother the Astronaut,” is tied to the national 2019 summer reading theme, A Universe of Stories. Aquarius’ mom is an astronaut and today is “Take your child to work day.” She gets to visit Mission Control, meet scientists and engineers, and learn all about space travel.
The event will kick off the Mercer Library’s annual summer reading program, which features weekly library events and a reading incentive program held June 10 to August 2. Students up to 4th grade will receive a reading log and stickers to track their reading time, and 5th grade through high school can pick up a summer reading bingo card full of reading challenges. Kids who complete their logs will be entered to win one of the library’s summer reading prize packages.
Upcoming children’s events at the library include a fun-filled juggling show with In Capable Hands on June 20 at 2:30pm, weekly programs with the library or the Discovery Center on Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m., and the library’s annual tie-dye party on Monday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m.
All programs are free and open to everyone with no registration required. For a full schedule of events and more details about the summer reading program, visit www.mercerpubliclibrary.org or call the library at 715-476-2366.
