Vilas County provides many classic examples of landforms formed due to the most recent glaciation in the upper Midwest. What are now the rolling hills and scattered lakes of a gentle forested landscape were once covered in a blanket of flowing and grinding ice, sculpting the underlying terrain and leaving behind many telltale markers of a drastically different geologic past. Join Northland College Assistant Professor of Geology, Dave Ullman, on a hike through the diverse terrain at the Van Vliet Hemlocks State Natural Area as we learn to read the influence that past glaciation has had on the current landscape. Limited space available so pre-registration required by 11/1. This program is sponsored by Friends of Van Vliet Hemlocks and is free to the public.  We will ride together in the Discovery Center van.  Meet at the NLDC at 1pm.
