The greater Mercer area has over 74,500 acres of public forestland and numerous bodies of water. The Iron County Forestry Department manages 174,317 acres of county forest. Privately owned land enrolled as "open" in the state Managed Forest Law program is available to hunters.
The Northwoods Wildlife and Wetlands Club's shooting range is open from April 1 to November 30 each year. There are target ranges for rifle, pistol, and archery, as well as clay trap shooting and an archery field course.
